Team Penske Racing’s Austin Cindric has been one of the best Superspeedway racers since his debut. But he has just one Daytona 500 to show for in the Next-Gen era, as he often is victim of wrecks in the drafting tracks. He was strong in the first two races of the 2025 season, Daytona and Atlanta, only to get wrecked, running his shot at wins as usual.
Last Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Austin Cindric was wrecked by Kyle Larson, who blocked his move via the outside lane leading him to the wall, leaving him limited space to get out of the mess. The wreck also collected Daytona 500 winner Willaim Byron, the teammate of the No:5 Chevy driver at Hendrick Motorsports.
While talking about the same in the Stacking Pennies, the hots claim Larson move was similar to the moves made by Denny Hamlin in the past on the HMS racer. The ex-champion was quick to shut down the claims, highlighting how unlike the JGR driver what he did was a mistake and him taking the wrong angle.
Denny usually comes door to door. It’s similar, similar. My angle is what ran him out of space and you know, when I’ve been running the fence it’s the angle that Denny has left me. So, I really didn’t leave him much of a, I left him a choice but not enough.

Kyle Larson takes the blame for Austin Cindric’s wreck at Atlanta
In the same podcast, Kyle Larson confessed that he was responsible for the incident and was caused by wrong perception judgment. He thought the lane was clear for him to make the move, but his angle of approach wasn’t good enough.

Grip and a little bit of perception judgment, I think. That was definitely my fault for sure. You know, I had that run and I just wanted to take it and there was a moment where I thought I was clear – it was going to be tight. Then I head ‘Clear,’ and my angle gets bad and like now I can start to feel him there and I’m like, ‘I’m tight.’ And it was just too late and I squeezed him in the fence, big time.
Kyle Larson said.
The comments from Kyle Larson shows he has taken the blame for his mistakes and has learned from it. He has now shifted his focus to this weekend’s race at COTA, with the hopes of securing an early win to lock his place in the playoffs.
