Coming into the memorial weekend, the NASCAR fans were looking forward to see Kyle Larson pull off the iconic Indy 500-Coke 600 double duty. But mother nature had other plans as rain ruined the eight months of headwork and investments. Hence ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty feels Larson’s hyped weekend was a letdown for fans.

Kyle Larson sacrificed his Coca-Cola 600 start for the Indy, because the race at Brickyard was massively delayed due to rain. Once he got to Charlotte; after finishing P18 at IMS, the race had already seen races till mid-way to stage-3. But as he was getting ready to switch positions with Justin Algeir, NASCAR stopped the race due to heavy rain and Christopher Bell was awarded the win.

While talking about how The Double went for Kyle Larson, considering the start was marked on the name of Algeir, Kyle Petty admitted that the result was a disappointment for the fans. He pointed out that the fans were looking forward to it because of the hype that was created over it only to be disappointed because of mother nature.

Speaking of great finishes, Kyle Larson, what a letdown. After all the hype, after everything that was built up — Indy, the 600, the double, the one guy who can do it all, Mother Nature intervenes.

Kyle Petty insists Kyle Larson is still the man

While further talking about the point, Petty highlighted how Kyle Larson had ran inside the top-10 the whole day ay Indy before his mistake speeding in the pit lane ruined the race for him. But he feels despite the disappointment, Kyle Larson is the man.

Indy starts late. He stays up there, runs in the top ten all day long. Has a speeding penalty, is relegated to an 18th place finish. Comes to Charlotte just in time to get in the car when the rain comes. So, what a letdown for all the hype we saw. Still, Kyle Larson is the man.

The disappointments aside, NASCAR has a major decision to make regarding Kyle Larson’s eligibility for championship. He needs to get a waiver from NASCAR to become eligible as he couldn’t register a start and since he deliberately missed a crown jewel race, it would be interesting to see how NASCAR would approach this.
