During the NASCAR Truck Series race last Saturday at Bristol, there was a massive clash between Toyota Tundra driver Stewart Friesen and Rev Racing driver Nick Sanchez. The clash between the drivers led to both their racers scoring disappointing finish. After the race, Friesen was seen confronting Sanchez in an aggressive manner.
Ex NASCAR driver Kyle Petty believes that the Stewart Friesen is the main culprit that caused the clash. Petty also claimed that drivers need to be aggressive in Bristol in order to progress in races because of the concrete nature of the track. The confrontation between the two drivers has caused a lot of controversy and talk.
Now, what we saw was, and all honesty, that Stewart Friesen was driving the racetrack like there was nobody on the racetrack but him. He came up off the corner, Sanchez had the line. He could have lifted, but that’s not what you get paid for. You don’t get paid to back up, you get paid to go forward. He stuck the nose in there. He turned Friesen into the outside wall. When the race was over with, the confrontation happens. That’s what Bristol is all about, baby. Confrontation and aggression.Kyle Petty said via his Hot Takes show.
The altercation between the drivers on the track seemed to be something that the former driver expected. With Bristol being a very different track due to its concrete surface and massive tire wear, it seems such aggressive driving and close contact between drivers is something fans should get used to.
Kyle Petty’s thoughts on how Nick Sanchez should have dealt with Stewart Friesen after the incident
Petty also mentioned how the young Nick Sanchez should’ve dealt with the altercation after the race in order to avoid conflict between him and the Toyota number 52. He added that young drivers shouldn’t get into altercations with older drivers due to their experience and age.
So, what I’m trying to tell you is, if you’re a young driver, if you get into a confrontation with an older driver, and you will, and you will, be humble. Take it. Go to your room. Slam your door, and then shoot him the bird.Kyle Petty said.
The entire confrontation between Friesen and Sanchez seemed to have sparked a lot of conversations about the nature of Bristol. With issues at the mainline NASCAR Cup series as well, it seems that the track always sparks new headlines and stories about it.
