The NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen one of the greatest finish the track has ever seen with Shane van Gisbergen having a hard fight with Chris Buescher on the last lap. The part-time Kaulig Racing driver was racing inside the front row most of the race and on the last lap, SVG accidently made contact with the wall dooming his chances.

Chris Buescher, who is known for never giving up, took advantage of Shane van Gisbergen’s driver error, muscled his way to the lead and eventually secured the win. Ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty sees a positive in the Kiwi racers loss as he highlighted how the Chevy driver failed despite using every trick under sleeve, being a more experienced road course racer, on the last lap.

We saw on those last two corners, SVG did everything he could. He’s sideways, he’s everything but backwards but Chris Buescher powers away.
Kyle Petty said via NASCAR on YouTube.

He highlighted how good SVG is road courses and how him getting beaty by the regular NASCAR racers brings the Supercars champion a notch. Petty also praised how good Chris Buescher fought for the win at the end and his never give up attitude.

SVG can be beat on a road course people. He got beat. Everybody should know that now. So that brings him down a notch. At the same time, Chris Buescher never gives up, that’s a Cup driver right there. Never give up, it’s not over till they throw the checkered flag.
Kyle Petty added.

Shane van Gisbergen admits his mistake in the Glen loss

The star driver in his post-race interview admitted that it was his mistake that cost him the victory. SVG is pissed because he came close to win in the Cup, which is very hard to come by, considering he had a fast Camaro ZL1.

I gave him a little bump to get the spot, and I knew it was going to come back. So, I was just pushing the entries and trying to get away and just made an error. Pissed because these races are hard to win, and we have had a rough run in the Cup Series this year. The WeatherTech Camaro was really good, fastest car all day, and it just didn’t work out.
Shane van Gisbergen said.

The season is not over yet for SVG to be so downbeat on himself. He has a championship to fight for in the Xfinity series. It will be interesting to see how long he can remain in the chase and whether he would be able to upset the star studded second tier title contenders.
