Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin produced another masterclass run last Sunday to secure his 61st career win and since then one of the biggest discussions has been about if the veteran will retire with 70 wins to his name. ex-racer Kyle Petty has a bold take on the topic.

In the latest episode of the NASCAR Inside the Race podcast, Petty pointed out that he doesn’t think the No:11 Toyota driver will secure 70 Cup wins before eventual retirement. In the same time, he also declared that the likes of Joey Logano and Kyle Larson wont score 60 wins like Hamlin.

So, I think he’s going to struggle to get to 70. And 70 is a huge number because I think 60 is a number that we’re going to look at Kyle Larson. We’re going to look at Joey Logano. We’re going to look at the guys that are greats that are coming along behind Denny Hamlin. They’re not going to get to 60.

Kyle Petty said after Las Vegas Race.

Richard Petty’s son knowns the JGR racer has multiple wins left in his, but it won’t be enough to cross the 70 mark. In the Next-Gen era, it is almost impossible to win 7-10 races a season, and considering his age, Denny Hamlin only have two more years left in the sport. The veteran himself doesn’t see it happening, as he recently admitted that he might only win 67 races by 2027.

I don’t think Denny’s going to get to 70… I think he’s got more wins left in him. But the years of six and seven wins and the year of 10 wins that we used to see, that’s gone. That ain’t coming back. That’s old school racing. We’re going to see guys get three and four wins.

Denny Hamlin shares his thoughts being among NASCAR greats

With his win tally going beyond 60, Denny Hamlin has undoubtedly etched his name in the history books alongside the all-time grates of the sport. He feels really fortunate about being named among them, as according to the veteran he has never been as talented as the names in the pedestal.

My name stands out amongst… those are legends of the sport and I feel very fortunate to be on the list. But those guys were far more talented than I have ever thought about being.

Denny Hamlin said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that he has work extra hard behind the scene to achieve this success and that same work ethic is leading him triumph in his mid-40s. Hence, he is cherishing every moment of it.

I just work really hard. I still, to this day, work really hard at my craft to try to continue to get better. Days like today certainly make me feel happy about where I’m at in the sport still and what I can still do.

Denny Hamlin added.

The 23XI Racing co-owner has more solid days left to give for the sport and if Joe Gibbs Racing can give him the right car, Hamlin might win then record 70 races as well as a championship. It would be interesting how the coming race weeks are going to playout for the JGR veteran.
