The 2025 NASCAR season was marked with the chaos over the charter lawsuit. 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports sued the sport in 2024 alleging monopoly, and after multiple court battles, an ugly trial in December, the case was settled outside the court. The charters were made permanent as part of the deal and teams got a massive settlement.
Hall of Famer Mark Martin has recently shared his thoughts on in via Kenny Wallace’s YouTube channel, while announcing his new podcast. He pointed out that he was dreading to see an end to legal drama. The veteran was afraid if one of the two parties won the case, the sport would be changed forever, and not necessarily for the good.
Well, I think it was a win for everyone. It was a win for the fans. It was a win for NASCAR to get it behind them. Um, and it was a win for the teams. Uh, I can’t think of a better, uh, you know, resolution to the lawsuit. I really dreaded it. I really was, uh, afraid of what was going to happen with our sport going forward.
Mark Martin said via Kenny Wallace’s YouTube channel.
Further talking about the point, he pointed out that he feels really good about the fact the whole drama has ended and the leaders are finally united with the goal of making the sport better. This gives him a lot of optimism regarding the potential good days that are ahead of the sport starting from the 2026 season.
And, um, I, you know, I feel really good about it now. I feel great it’s behind us. I think it was a great outcome for the fans. And now it’s time to get back to uh the sport that we love so much. And I’m a I’m cautiously optimistic about the direction of things that are to come in 2000 uh 2026.

Mark Martin shares his thoughts on the changes coming to NASCAR playoffs
One of the major changes that is coming into the 2026 NASCAR season is the new playoffs format that fans has been asking for longtime. It is expected to be a new version of the playoffs, though the majority, including Mark Martin wanted the original full-season points format back. On the same video, he talked about how he played a part on tabling ideas for full-season format.

And so, look, I, you know, I’m a guy that has a bigger voice than those fans. And so, I decided I owe my entire career to the race fans that supported me so much. So, I stood up for the fans and through the meetings, I can’t believe it, but eventually a full season was on the table. Uh we don’t have, you know, the committee has no influence, you know, or no say in what the final thing is. But in the beginning, it wasn’t on the table.
Mark Martin said.
Further talking about the point, the Hall of Famer pointed out that though he is unhappy the format isn’t adopted, he is happy that it was at least part of the discussion. The veteran like many in the sport is expecting the 2026 format will the first step to going back to the legacy championship system.
I don’t think we’ll get it still, but I am very impressed that it’s on the table, that it’s actually a consideration. Um, I don’t know what we’ll get. Um, I hope that I’m not crushed. Um, and I hope it’s something that that I, you know, that’s in the right direction. Obviously, it will be in the right direction. We’re not going to have a one race winner take all kind of uh, you know, situation like that.
Mark Martin added.
The comments from the veteran seems rational and shows the passion he has shown over the 2025 season, when the new format was being discussed. It would be interesting to see how the sport is going to change the sport in the coming years.
