The NASCAR Cup garage is at the Charllotte Roval for the final race of the playoff Round of 12. Alongside the usual challenge the track brings in, this time the racers will have to cope with the changes made to the track. Speedway Motorsports Inc., the owners of the track, has reconfigured the track ahead of the Bank of America ROVAL 400.

The drivers were very critical of the changes coming into the weekend. Veteran Denny Hamlin claimed the track was re-designed with the intention of making the race more chaotic. Xfinity Series racer Riley Herbst asserted that the change even made the race even worse than it eventually was. Following the practice runs, Cup drivers have come out criticising the new turtle curbing added to the track.

2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr., who isn’t know for being super critical of the tracks, voiced his opinion. He pointed out that the new curbing is really hard on drivers and is not at all fun. The veteran driver seems really disappointed with the change coming in potentially his final race at the track, as he is set to retire at the end of 2024.

Feels like you get a concussion every lap basically if you hit them. So, yeah. Not much fun.

Martin Truex Jr. is disappointed after the Qualifying at Roval

Since the start of the Next-Gen era, the road courses have been Achilles heels for Martin Truex Jr. He hasn’t been able to be competitive on any of the races in RC tracks and the P30 Qualifying result from Roval shows things remains the same. He is really disappointed that the teams hard work was spoiled because of his poor runs.

It’s been cool but I’m just trying to focus on what I’m doing and doing a good job, and today I just totally screwed that up. We worked hard this week and I’m just disappointed right now. Hopefully tomorrow goes better

The 2024 season so far hasn’t been kind to Martin Truex Jr., who has been winless. He and his crew have been trying to end the streak, but the results are nowhere to be seen. It will be interesting to see if he can end his final full-time season with a win, with only five more races left in the season.
