Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. announced his retirement from full-time racing from the 2025 season. This year will mark his final season as a championship contender as he is set to explore something different with his life. Recently he made appearance in the Dale Jr. Download podcast and explained the significant role his longtime sponsor played in his career.

Martin Truex Jr. has a long-time sponsorship deal those dates back to his DEI days with Bass Pro Shops, a prominent hunting and fishing equipment retail chain. The firm and its CEO Jhony Morris, a close friend of Truex Jr., has been a huge supporter of his NASCAR attempts. They remained with him even when he had NAPA primary a sponsorship deal.

The veteran JGR driver told Dale Earnhardt Jr. that he wouldn’t have won the 2017 Cup title without Morris. The billionaire stepped up and supported the FRM team when they were struggling and was close to quit their operations. He asserted that though Morriss doesn’t like to take the credit for it, he deserves it.

I’ve told Johnny and he doesn’t really like to take too much credit for it, of course, but there’s no way I would ever won a championship I don’t think without his support...And then at Funiture Row, we were struggling and Barney [Visser] was probably going to pull the plug. Johnny stepped up and sponsored that car, we won a championship.

While earlier talking about the same point, Martin Truex Jr. pointed out that he feels lucky as he was able to get a partnership deal with Morris and his family. He was delighted to have them in his back every time he needed or changed something.
