Martin Truex Jr. hopeful his legacy will be one of an “underrated” racer
Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. wants NASCAR fans to remember him as an underrated driver after he retires.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup finale at Phoenix Raceway will mark an end of an era, as 2017 champion Martin Truex Jr. is set to retire from full-time racing at the end of the season. The veteran had one of the most accomplished careers the sports has ever seen that features a combined 48 wins from all three national series with 34 of them coming in the top-tier.
Martin Truex Jr.’s career can define as one of grit and determinations. He became the champion of the sport after a decade of racing to the limit with midfield teams. Truex Jr. had to work harder than most of his peers, despite being a second-generation racer. But he never gave up, and is now retiring with an elite legacy only a few in the sport can match.
Recently in an interview with Fox Sports, he was asked how wanted to be remembered by the fans. He admitted that he wanted to be known as someone who was good and treated everyone right, a tag that he has already earned in the sport. Truex Jr. also want people to still see him as a bit of an underrated driver.
Martin Truex Jr. is proud about his career
While earlier talking about how he sees his whole career, the veteran pointed out that he is proud about everything he has achieved over the years. He never expected that he would one day will win over 30 races and will retire as a champion of the sport, running many years in the front-row. Hence he believes he had a great career.
Indeed Martin Truex Jr. had a great career and is leaving a legacy that only a few drivers in the history of the sport can match. It will be interesting to see how well he will perform in his final race with JGR as a full-time driver on Sunday at Phoenix.
