Martin Truex Jr. own up his “dumb mistake” that caused his Darlington wreck involving Ryan Blaney

The 2024 season will mark the last shot Martin Truex Jr. will ever at winning a second Cup series title as he is set to retire at the end of the season. Considering the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran’s performance, it seems a title will remain as a dream as he has gone winless in the regular season this season, and is regularly getting caught in wrecks late this season.
In the regular season finale on Sunday at Darlington he was involved in yet another race that ruined the reigning champion Ryan Blaney’s race. He got lose on lap-32 of the race made contact with the No:12 Ford who was on the outside. The duo suffered severe damages and Martin Truex Jr. was forced to retire from the race alongside his rival. In his post-wreck interview, he took all the blame.
Truex Jr. pointed out that it was all his doing that led to the crash at Darlington and explained how getting a run on William Byron on lap-2. He admitted that he hates his No:19 and the sponsors team is yet again getting up in the mess as his dump mistakes ruined their hopes, as they had a solid car for Sunday.
It was all my fault, all my doing. I got a run on the 24 (William Byron) and went to the inside and thought everything was going fine and the car just took off and I ran into him. Obviously, that was on me. I hate it for my guys, Bass Pro Shops, Toyota, everybody. We had a phenomenal race car, and I know this is like the longest race of the year – just a dumb mistake on my part.Martin Truex Jr. said via NBC Sports.
Martin Truex Jr. apologized to his team over recent underperformance
The JGR veteran while further talking about the disappointing run admitted that he has been having miserable races in the last two months. He pointed out that he failed maximize on the fast cars he got from the No:19 team. Truex Jr. hence apologized to his team for ruining their hard works.
I mean, it sucks. We’ve had a miserable two months. Fast cars and nothing to show for it. Again tonight – tonight was on me. Sorry to my team and all the guys who work so hard.Martin Truex Jr. said.
The veteran now has to move on from the disappointment and should work on getting back to winning for in the playoffs. He has to secure a race win as soon as possible in order to be in the chase for the championship.
