The 2024 NASCAR season marked end of an era, as 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. retired from full-time racing, finishing 10th in the points table with the No:19 Toyota team. His final season wasn’t as impressive as many expected, but some of his disappointing performances was the result of Joe Gibbs Racing cars not hitting the mark.

The veteran racer will make, potentially his final Cup start, with the expected 2025 Daytona 500 entry. He is set to race in the No. 56 Toyota Camry XSE, for TRICON Garage. The Truck Series team is making their Cup Series debut and they are supported by Joe Gibbs Racing, giving them technical support.

He would also join forces with his ex-crew chief Cole Pearn, who helped him to win 24 races and the 2017 Cup championship. Martin Truex Jr. is looking forward for the opportunity to race again with Pearn as well as his longtime sponsor Bass Pro Shops. The TRD driver sees it as the best time for him to win the Daytona 500 for him as well as Johnny Morris, who owns Bass Pro Shops.

It’s going to be a really cool deal to be able to work with Cole and have the number 56 again. I really appreciate everyone at Bass Pro Shops, TRICON and Toyota helping put this together to go have some fun, and I can’t think of a better time to go win the thing for Johnny Morris.

This opportunity is a testament to the dedication of our entire organization and our partners at Toyota. Having raced against Martin for many years, I can confidently say there’s no stronger competitor I’d want behind the wheel for our first Cup Series entry at the sport’s most prestigious race.

Having been a pole sitter before at Daytona, David Gilliland us banking on his driver Martin Truex Jr. to help him celebrate a win in the victory lane. It would be interesting to see how the veteran would perform on his 22end Daytona 500 entry.
