The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Bristol was a wild event, as it has always been at the track. In the middle of the chaos was the 21-year-old DGM Racing driver Mason Maggio. He almost fell victim to a massive engine fire during the race.
On Lap 194 of 300 of the races, smock started to come from underneath the No:91 Chevy. As soon as he got into the pit-road, the smock started to engulf the car before the fire started. The team spotter shouted the youngster to stop and get out of the car, while the safety team rushed in to put out the fire.
You’re on fire. Get out. You’re on fire. Get out. Get out.

The driver got out of the car safe and send a message to the NASCAR community that he is safe. The safety team was able to quickly put out the fire, while the race was red flagged and it took the DGM Racing team more than an entire bag of speedy dry to clean the fluids on the track after the crash.
For all the family at home, for mom, I’m good.
Mason Maggio said soon after getting out.
Mason Maggio speaks about the wild incident after the race
In his post-race interview, the veteran racer shared his thoughts on the wild incident and asserted that he is doing good. He admitted that it is a shame their race day ended early and they suffered DNF in the third time this season. The youngster also admitted that he didn’t expect the sparks from underneath the car to cause the fire.

I’m all good. I knew there was gonna be a lot of sparks under the lights here at Bristol, I just didn’t expect my car to ignite it, so. Just a shame. We were doing okay. We were hoping for a better day.
Mason Maggio said post-race.
Further talking about the point, he recalled the moment the fire started. He admitted that it was a weird situation as the oil pressure start to drop instantly, and the smoke turned into fire before he had time to think.
But it was weird. I just saw the oil pressure start to drop out of nowhere on that last restart, and lo and behold, I was in smoke. We just lost the motor at that point. I didn’t expect it to go up in flames like that…
Mason Maggio added.
This was a wild moment that showcased how physically and mentally tough the Bristol track is. It was an unfortunate moment for the young driver who is desperately looking into making a name for himself in the second division.
