Since the start of the Next-Gen era, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. has been flirting with retirement and finally earlier this season he announced that 2024 will be his last season as a full-time driver. The 2017 Cup champion marked his final race as a full-time driver with the season finale appearance at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday.
The NASCAR garage showed their love and respect for Martin Truex Jr. with special gestures before and after the race. During the ore-race drivers meeting, the whole garage stood up and gave the future Hall of Famer a standing ovation. The drivers also didn’t forget to congratulate the veteran after the race as well.
Amongst the many the congratulated Truex Jr, after the race was NBA legend and 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan. He came to Truex Jr. who was giving interviews before his car and gave him a warm embrace and shared his appreciations for the veteran. The No:19 Toyota driver seemed happy after interacting with Jordan.
Hendrick Motorsports Vice President and former Cup champion Jeff Gordon, who was once fierce rivals with Truex Jr. on the track, also showed up to share his appreciation. He embraced the Toyota driver and congratulated him for the impressive career he has had.

In his post-race interview, Martin Truex Jr. talked about the interaction with the sports legends and admitted that it feels a lot to get the respect from them. He pointed out that he feels honored about the respect he gets from the everyone in the community.

Yeah, it means a lot to have the respect of guys like that and what they mean to the sport. Absolute legends, right? It makes me feel good that I’ve earned that respect over the years, and it means a lot. From here forward, I’m just going to go have some fun and do a little bit of racing here and there just for fun. Hopefully, it will be less stressful than days like today.

The respect and congratulations Martin Truex Jr. is receiving from the racing community shows his stature as one of the best ever to race in NASCAR. He still has a lot left to offer for the fans as racer as well as a fan. It will be interesting to see what he can offer to racing community now.
