Soon after the 2025 NASCAR season finale, NASCAR entered one of the ugliest phases of his history. The anti-trust lawsuit filed by Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Bob Jenkins’ Front Row Motorsports against NASCAR went into trial. Many controversial revelations were made and for almost two weeks, the future of the sport was uncertain.

Then both parties made the wisest decision that they should have made a long to go, by settling the case outside the court, and announcing the decision to make charters evergreen for all the teams. The settlement was necessary, as Michael Jordan, known for being a strong competitor, revealed in a recent interview he took the fight personally and was ready to do anything to win.

I was aggressively going to win. You know … I became a competitor all over again…I wouldn’t sue you if I didn’t think we had a good case. And we had a good case.

Michael Jordan said in a recent interview with CBS.

Earlier in the same conversation, the veteran highlighted that he started the fight after learning about the charter system, which was set up in favor of NASCAR, not the teams that took most of the risk to make racing better. Michael Jordan wanted to make the sport fair for ever stakeholder involved and have succeed to limit with the settlement.

Yes, 100 percent. When I got into the sport, obviously, as I learned there was a lot of things I wasn’t really happy about. The sport was not setup long term for the individuals involved with the sport. Now, up top? Yep. They were making a good living. The people that were putting on the show were not getting the type of recognition or compensated fairly.

Michael Jordan insists he wasn’t attacking NASCAR with the lawsuit

Further talking about the point, Jordan talked about some negative PR that surfed over the lawsuit. They were some allegations, platformed by some big names in NASCAR, that MJ is fighting against the system for the sake of it and not understanding system.

He slammed these claims, highlighting how he was big NASCAR fan growing up in Charlotte and asserted he didn’t just wake up one day and decided to sue the sport. He made the tough decision after leering about system from within as well as outside.

I’ve been a fan. It’s not like I just woke up and said, ‘You know what? I’m going to go and I’m going to attack NASCAR.’ No, I’ve been involved in NASCAR. I’ve been a supporter for NASCAR for a long period of time.

Michael Jordan said.

Despite the controversies, NASCAR needed one of the team owners to finally stand up and gain some power in the decision-making process, as the sport was not going in the right direction. MJ being the richest and most resourceful owner in the garage made it easier. His fame also played significant roles in swaying the public, as no other team owner has such power.
