2022 Daytona 500 winner Austin Cindric joins forces with young F1 and IndyCar drivers to race in Rolex 24

Austin Cindric wins the 2022 Daytona 500
2022 Cup Series Rookie of the year Austin Cindric who drives the No:2 Penske Mustang will drive in the 61st Rolex 24 at Daytona. He will drive in the LMP-2 class for Rick Ware Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener. Formula 1 reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi at Daytona will join him alongside Andretti Autosport’s IndyCar duo Devlin DeFrancesco and Eric Lux.
This is the second time Austin Cindric making the LMP-2 Rolex 24 appearance in two years. He was the only Cup racer in last year’s event. This is Cindric’s 9th IMSA race appearance. Besides his 2022 Rolex 24 starts, he also has 7 GT cars in the series after making his debut in 2014. His best finish in IMSA is a P6 in 2018 in the GT class for JDC-Miller Motorsports.
Oreca of Rick Ware Racing will field the No. 51 Ford entry on the Daytona field. His co-driver Pietro Fittipaldi is the grandson of two times F1 World Champion Emmerson Fittipaldi. He is the reserve driver for American F1 outfit Hass, who is co-owner of the NASCAR championship-winning team Stewart Hass Racing.
Rick Ware Racing’s No:51 entry will use a predominantly white paint scheme with blue and green stripes. The primary sponsor of the team in bioheavan. Cindric has high hopes for the event as Devlin DeFrancesco, and Eric Lux won the event in 2021. Two of the 10 IndyCar drivers will drive in the IMSA event this year.

Austin Cindric pointed out that the Rolex 24 is one of the events he always has been passionate about and he shared his hopes of finally winning the Rolex watch in his fifth attempt. He is pleased with the experience driver’s lineup of the No:51 team.
“The Rolex 24 is an event that I’ve always been passionate about. With it being my fifth attempt, I’m hungry to continue my pursuit of a win and a Rolex watch. I have a great, experienced lineup of co-drivers with a winning pedigree,” Austin Cindric said in a press release.
Team owner Rick Ware pointed out that for him the Rolex 24 event is as iconic as the Daytona 500, Indy500, and 24 hours of Le Mans. He is also happy about his driver line-up which has experience drivers from multiple disciplines.
“The 24-hour race at Daytona is one of the Crown Jewels of motorsports. It’s right up there with the Daytona 500, Indy 500, and 24 Hours of Le Mans. I couldn’t be happier about the driver line-up we’re bringing to the Rolex 24 this year. It’s great to have drivers with F1, NASCAR, Indy Car, and various other levels of racing experience driving our cars this year,” says Rick Ware.
