Alex Bowman has been with Hendrick Motorsports since 2018, when he replaced Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No:88 Chevy. He later took over the iconic No:48 car of Jimmie Johnson after his retirement in 2021. Driving for the most successful team in the sport with charters of such iconic status, Bowman has always been expected to be a serial race winner. But the Arizona native is yet to achieve those goals.
He has scored just seven wins in his HMS career, while his teammates in the same period has won double digit number of races and two of them have also won championship. Coming into the 2024 season he was projected by many as a driver in the hot-seat. But despite a two year long winless streak and missing playoffs in 2023 after missing races due to back injury, Alex Bowman is confident that he has a secured seat.
The No:48 Chevy driver recently spoke to media about all the speculation after securing a top-5 finish last Sunday on Bristol. He pointed out that he has gotten assurance from Rick Hendrick and his sponsor Ally that he won’t be replaced. Bowman inherited the Ally Sponsorship after Jimmie Johnson’s retirement.
No, definitely not. Mr. Hendrick and [primary sponsor] Ally have made it super clear that they have faith in me. I don’t think the outside sometimes sees the whole picture of everything that’s going on. We’ve fought a lot of different things, and I think we’re all doing everything we can to get better.Bowman told RACER.
Alex Bowman sees no reason why he can’t turn his 2024 season around
Before coming to Bristol, Bowman was struggling to put-on good performance and luck wasn’t on his side as well. He finished outside the top-15 in three races after scoring a P2 at Daytona 500 before making Bristol comeback. Bowman had solid cars in all of those three races but he failed to deliver. But he knows his team can bounce back soon.
We’re doing all we can to get back to where we need to be, but the potential is definitely there. I think Blake and I work well together, and everybody gives us all the tools we need to be successful. It’s just been a rough go of it. There’s no reason why we can’t turn it around.Bowman said.
Alex Bowman’s crew chief Blake Harris had the similar verdict to give about their races. He pointed out that the team has the potential to repeat Bristol type race of better every week. But to do that consistently execute on the track and well as on the pits.
