Bubba Wallace is in a delicate situation going into the NASCAR regular Cup season finale at Daytona International Speedway. The 23XI Racing driver holds the final spot in the playoff standings and will hope to strengthen his grip on that this Sunday. Wallace needs a clean race and no new race winner to enter the playoffs for the first time. However, once the flag is waved in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 this weekend, many drivers will hunt for a win to grab that last playoff spot.

Bubba Wallace admitted to NASCAR Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass that he would be devastated if he didn’t make it to the playoffs. Wallace had to rely on points, though a win would have guaranteed a spot among the postseason 16-driver field. His impressive outing at Wakins Glen earned him solid points going into one of the most important weekends of his cup career. This is either a make-or-break moment for the 23XI Racing driver. Wallace has been consistent this season and is 32 points ahead of Ty Gibbs for the playoffs.

Bubba Wallace told Fox Sports, “I would be devastated if we didn’t make it to the playoffs. I hate that we haven’t had a win this year to lock ourselves in yet. But yeah, I think I have had a lot of people telling me you can only control things you can control.” The 29-year-old claimed that their speed has been better than last year. However, he confessed they had more opportunities last season but made mistakes to tarnish that outlook.

Bubba Wallace claimed it would be a massive pat on the back to everybody involved in the program and 23XI Racing if they do great things on the track and lock themselves in the playoffs. He spoke about the commitment he has to deliver to the team. There is no doubt that it is going to be a stressful weekend for the drivers and a thrilling one for the NASCAR fans.

Wallace added, “I came off last year thinking that this year would be our best one yet, and if I look at it, we are sitting 14th in the points. We have a shot at being a part of the playoffs. We have a shot at going really far in the playoffs. There’s a lot of good tracks that suit us really well, and for some reason I like to win in the playoffs. And it doesn’t matter it’s over, but a win is a win right?”

Wallace’s goal for the weekend is clear. He feels that they have to choose to get better, as nothing is guaranteed. The aim is to get themselves locked into the playoffs. With the 32-point lead, Bubba Wallace will most likely retain the final spot. However, he stated that nobody is safe until the race is over. After all, Daytona could be unpredictable.
