“It’s a shame,” Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney reveal whom to blame for the last lap wreck at Talladega
Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney need to score a win in 2023 to prove a point to the fans and themselves.
Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney
Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney saw yet another solid start ending in a big disappointment, this week at Talladega. The duo, desperate for a Cup race win, came close to one only to see the tussle among them costing both. The incident had everything to prompt a season-long rivalry among the drivers, and it would have happened if the duo were any other two from the Cup garage.
The 23XI Racing and Team Penske Racing drivers are close friends who shared some special moments in their junior years together before making it in the Cup series. So, it’s not surprising that they both don’t blame each other for the incident. Both drivers are sad because they had to end up in that situation after having a solid day that saw them help each other during drafts.
During the post-race interviews, The No:23 Camry driver pointed out that Ryan Blaney shouldn’t be blamed for turning him, and that it was his miscalculated move that eventually caused the wreck. Blaney, who felt bad about invoking Wallace’s spin, pointed out that the No:23 should have avoided the bloke, though it was the right thing to do. He said he had no option but to bump the Camry with his No:12 Mustang.
“I pulled a late block – close, close, close block — and just that sent us around. Not the No. 12’s (Blaney) fault, just I honestly thought that he would leave me high and dry coming back around, and so just hate it, hate it for my team. That’s how it goes,” Bubba Wallace said.
“It’s hard to block in these cars. I felt like he kind of triple-moved on me; can’t really do that. You block the middle, block the bottom, block the top, and I’m there. It’s a shame he got turned, but I don’t know what else I could do besides slam on the brakes, and you can’t do that,” Blaney said.
“I’m not blaming anybody; it’s just hard racing. As the leader, I would have done the same thing. You’re trying to block and maintain the lead. But as second, I’ve got to take every run I can get and keep my momentum, so it’s just one of those things,” Ryan Blaney added.

“A great day crap results,” Bubba Wallace defines his Talladega outing
The 23XI driver, in his post-race interview, pointed out that other than the results, the whole day was solid for the TRD team. He applauded his crew for the impressive job they did the whole day. Wallace said that he wished the day didn’t turn out like this, and he had blocked Blaney a bit early.
“So that was our best, by far, plate race that we’ve ever done, so hat’s off to the No. 23 group, Freddie, on top of the roof. Just a great day for us, just a crap result, so…hate it. I caused that one, and man, I just thought it’d play out a little bit different — obviously not getting wrecked, but I thought the move would happen coming off through the trioval,” Wallace said.
