The 2023 season marked the best year 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace has had in the NASCAR Cup series. He finished the season P10 in the point table, his best point finish ever in the Cup, and also made it to playoff R-12 in his first post-season appearance. To top it all off, his best friend Ryan Blaney of Team Penske Racing won the Cup title.
But Wallace doesn’t seem to be very happy about his season. He is infamous for his harsh self-criticism, and the same happened after the Cup season finale at Phoenix, which saw him finish inside the top ten. He took to Instagram to reflect on this season, the ups and downs, and achieving the goals set in front of him by the team.
In an Instagram story, he admitted feeling down and disappointed on his way home. He wrote that he isnt enjoying his impressive season and best friends’ Cup triumph as he wishes he would have. He went on to claim that he doesn’t even understand the actual reason for his being, and it is stopping him from letting his wife help him.
Currently 3:42 a.m.. [sic] sitting here on the couch questioning everything, and I have no idea why. Climbed from the car today with little to no emotion…You would think your bud winning the championship would bring that joy and excitement back. Sadly, it did not. You would think having a career year and capping it off with P10 in points would bring the happiness back. Sadly, it did not.Wallace wrote on Instagram, as reported by On3.com.
Bubba Wallace shared a positive message after the reflection
Wallace also expressed some optimism in his message to the fans. He asked the people who are going through the same situation, like him, to be optimistic about the days to come and face them bravely.
To my peeps out there starting at a blank wall, I’m with you. Tomorrow is another day. Another opportunity. Keep after it. ‘We gon be alright.'
Wallace has a lot to be proud of this season. He showed much maturity in the latter half of the season, saw him producing solid point-paying finishes for the win. His qualifying performance in the playoff was sublime, and he was also the best restarter of the season by miles. If he can remain consistent in 2024, a better playoff charge can be expected of 23XI.
