NASCAR will hit the Talladega Superspeedway for the annual GEICO 500, the second superspeedway scheduled cup race of 2022, which marks the Next-Gen car’s debut at the 2.66 miles oval. Going into the race 23X1 Racing team driver Bubba Wallace will be the center of attraction as he will enter the race as the defending champion at Talladega.

Bubba Wallace made history last year when he was awarded the win in the 2021-GEICO 500 as the storm washed away the race when he was the leader. This made him only the second-ever Black NASCAR driver to win a Cup Series Race following legendary driver Wendell Scott.

The 2022 season so far has been a rollercoaster ride for the only full-time black racer in Cup Series right now as he wasn’t able to build on his P2 finish at his season opener at Daytona which remains his only top 5 finish this season. Now Bubba Wallace has come forth suggesting that he is excited about going back to Talladega and potentially fighting for the win.

Bubba Wallace acknowledged that he is excited to get back to Talladega and added that he likes to continue his trend of good finishes in the last few races. He went on to list out his Superspeedway performances to point out that if not for the Dumb moves e made he might have had some wins in the past.

“I’m excited for Talladega. It seems like the speedway stuff has been solid the last few weeks’ races. So, (let’s) continue that trend (getting) back there and hopefully get us another win,”  Bubba Wallace said.

“I finished 15th in my first (superspeedway) Cup race in 2017 (at Daytona) when I was filling in (for Aric Almirola). And our car was fast; I was just riding along, not really knowing what to do. Then obviously, followed up that year in 2018 with a second at the (Daytona) 500, and then we’ve had the speed the rest of the races. I would just make dumb moves and take us out of contention or just be caught up in somebody else’s mess,” Bubba Wallace added.

I climb in the car and what excites me the most is you sit there and it’s like, damn, one of us is going to win today. Who’s it going to be? And then you get to find out. That just magnifies when you go to the superspeedway stuff, so that’s why I enjoy it so much,” Bubba Wallace added.
