The NASCAR Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway was as chaotic as the 2023 controversial season finale of the third-tier NASCAR championship. Rev Racing’s Nick Sánchez was awarded a win after a last-lap incident that took out the majority of the race front runners. Spire Motorsports’ Rajah Caruth, who was the key factor in the final incident finished P2 ahead of Corey Heim at P3.

Caruth’s car got lost after a minor nudge from Cup full-timer Corey Lajoie, and he got into Taylor Gray, who was running on the outside of the Spire driver and suffered the most from the incident. His car got flipped and airborne before making a hard landing on the track, with huge sparks coming off the car’s underbody.  Fortunately, no drivers were harmed due to the incident.

The finish was special for Caruth, as it was his best finish ever in the NASCAR Truck Series. He was welcomed with applause for the accomplishment and a familiar face was waiting for him in the garage area. Bubba Wallace, the most successful and only African American racer in the Cup series was there waiting to chat with him.

The 23XI Racing star who drives for Michael Jordan, pulled Caruth to the side and had a good conversation, and they parted ways shaking hands and hugging each other. Later Caruth revealed that Wallace and he discussed the race finish. He also acknowledged the fact that Wallace has always been on the sideline cheering for him.

Here is how fans reacted to the incident

Fans on social media had a mixed reaction to the discussion Wallace and Caruth had. This was mainly due to the fact that the initial video that was circulating on the internet featured the Toyota driver having a conversation where he seemed a bit angry, but a full video was later released where it showed that they had had a productive conversation.

Some fans used the opportunity to criticize the drivers, some with positive and others with some negative intentions. Few fans went beyond the limit by blaming Wallace’s influence for the incident at the track.
