2022 was one of the most dramatic seasons of NASCAR history, to say the least.  Cup series’ sole African American driver Bubba Wallace was among most of those incidents or discussions. The 23X1Racer had his most impressive season in the premier stock car division.

He started the season with a bang securing a P2 finish in the season opener, Daytona 500.  That was the only solid run Wallace had in the first half of 2022. He was one of the most inconsistent and luckless drivers on the grid.  Fans witnessed a different Bubba Wallace in the second half of 2022.

He secured his second career win, first career pole, and a personal record of 8 top-10 finishes in the second half of 2022. He pointed out that one of the reasons behind his struggles was the time he took to figure out the 7th gen car. The 23X1 Racing team has already started prepping Wallace’s car for 2023 and he is super excited about it.

It took us all year to figure out this car; we’re still figuring it out day by day. Having the right people in our camp and back at the shop figuring all that out to get us ready and prepped for next year is super exciting,” Bubba Wallace said.

The 2023 season is expected to be the breakout season for Bubba Wallace with Michael Jordon’s team. The team struggled in 2021 since it was their debut campaign. But they managed to impress the cup garage with the Talladega win. In 2022 they have to adjust to the Next-Gen car and at the same time work on a second team as well.

All these excuses expire at the start of 2023. The team needs to step up their game. Wallace is ready to lead the garage. He is ready for the changes that are coming on his way in the off-season as well as the next season. Wallace said, “As much as I’m ready for the off-season, I’m ready for next season to start,”.

Bubba Wallace is confident about the team’s chances in 2023. His belief comes from the improvement in car performance he witnessed in the season finale at Phoenix. He had a disappointing race in Phoenix when the cup garage visited it in the first half of the season. When the team came back to track for the finale, he was one of the top 10 contenders.

One hundred percent. Just having conversations [recently] about how we are so much better as a team and as a manufacturer from Phoenix [race] one to Phoenix [race] two, it just makes you think about how much better you’ll be starting the year off,” Bubba Wallace said.
