No:23 Toyota Camry driver Bubba Wallace has one of the best team owner one driver could hope for in Michael Jordan. He was signed by 23XI Racing in 2021, to drive their car by Jordan and co-owner Denny Hamlin. The NBA legend is often spotted in the NASCAR races supporting his drivers and this weekend he was present at COTA as well.
While speaking to the media, ahead of the race, Bubba Wallace was asked about Michael Jordan’s presence in the 23XI Garage for Sunday’s race. The TRD driver used the opportunity to joke about the 23XI majority owner missing the last few races of his team in the Cup series, saying he thought the ex-Chicago Bull’s star might’ve quit NASCAR.
No surprise, hell I hadn’t seen him in forever, thought he quit the team. I thought Denny was majority owner. So, nice to see him here.Wallace told Fox Sports.
Wallace will start the race at P10 on Sunday after an impressive race while his teammate Tyler Reddick is set to start the race at P3. Both have different goals set fir the event. Reddick, the defending race winner, is expected to secure a back-to-back win while for Wallace the objective is to produce a solid race.
Bubba Wallace is proud of the 23XI Racing put-in to make his road course racing better
Wallace, while talking about his speed at COTA, pointed out that he has put a lot of work on his road course racing and he feels good his speed at the track. He also added that he is proud of his and his teams’ commitments
But I feel good with the speed, really proud of the work we put in. Really proud of myself committing to it. Put in five hours almost … of prepping here for COTA and it’s paying off, so appreciate everybody back at AirSpeed, everybody at 23XI just grinding trying to get our road course program better.Bubba Wallace said.
Wallace has also confirmed that he is leaning on the insights that would come in from his teammate Tyler Reddick as the No:45 Camry driver is one of the most talented RC racers on the Cup grid. The results from Sunday will reveal how much of the work put in by Wallace during the off-season on road courses will pay off.
