The NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway saw Joe Gibbs driver Denny Hamlin controversially take the win. Besides that, the race saw a lot of over-the-limit, scrappy driving from a lot of drivers. With Bubba Wallace and Martin Truex Jr. being the biggest names doing so.
Bubba Wallace saw his hopes of a top 5 crumble as he got loose while catching Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson. Following the race, on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, the 23XI Racing driver’s spotter, Freddie Kraft spoke about how Wallace agreed it was his mistake, nearly ruining Larson’s race. Following this, the bad pit-stop was karmic in nature according to Kraft.
I mean he made a mistake. I think he owned it after the race. A mistake he got loose, we were catching Larson for fourth i think it was. Finally got a good run off of two, got underneath him in three. He doesn't need me to come sugarcoat it for him. He made a mistake, he knows he made a mistake. He went down there to apologize Kyle afterwards. It is what it is, but karma bites us right away.Freddie Kraft said via the Draft Bumber Clear podcast.
The spotter added how the entire series of events led to a disappointing weekend for the 23XI team, and shouldn’t be repeated again. Wallace and the team will definitely want to bounce back after the disappointing P13 finish during the next race at Martinsville Speedway.
Bubba Wallace’s spotter apologizes to Martin Truex Jr. for ruining his race
During the NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway, 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace was chasing Hendrick Motorsport driver Kyle Larson. During this, on lap 399 the pair tangled and set off a smoke train that ruined Martin Truex Jr.’s chances of winning.
After this, Truex Jr. was massively frustrated with what happened, as the possible race victory was taken away from him by things out of his control. Freddie Kraft apologized to the No:19 driver for the incident.
I completely understand. I see him getting a lot of sh*t for being a crybaby…I was like, he should be mad. He was going to win the race. Then the yellow comes out, he gets beat off pit road, probably makes him madder. Denny jumps the start, probably makes him madder.
Freddie Kraft said.
Following this, Kraft also admitted how it was his and the team’s mistake for ruining a possible race victory for Truex Jr. The entire issue seemed to have a very disappointing impact on the team, only time will tell how they bounce back next.
