Carson Hocevar is set to make his Cup series full-time debut in the 2023 season with Spire Motorsports. He will replace Ty Dillon in the No:77 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and will be in the fight for the Rookie of the Year accolade. In a recent conversation he had on X, the young driver claimed that he believes he has nothing to prove in the Cup series despite not even making a full-time debut.

Replying to a post from Daily Downforce seeking fans’ opinions about what Hocevar has to prove in the Cup series he made his point clear. He believes he doesn’t have anything since he has proved to himself that he could compete with his heroes this year. Hocevar admitted that he might have things to prove for public opinion, but hinted that he isn’t concerned about it.

Nothing. Atleast I don’t think so, proved to myself that I could compete with some of my heroes, and my team have more confidence in me than I did before getting more chances last year. Not sure what more to prove other then for public opinion, but that’s when you overextend. It’s just about execution to our potential as an organization and as a race team.

He landed his Cup seat without racing in the Xfinity Series after his impressive substitute stint with Legacy Motor Club. Hocevar impressed the NASCAR nation with the Championship-4 run in the Truck Series and a couple of impressive top-10 finishes with the No:42 team that has been underwhelming the whole season.

Carson Hocevar has a lot to prove in the Cup series

While Hocevar has nothing to prove to himself he has to prove to the NASCAR community that he deserves the Cup promotion. The opinions about him in the NASCAR community were initially negative and it got positive mid-way to the season before it got negative again.

In the first half of the season, he received a lot of criticism for his aggressive racing style. If it wasn’t for his raw speed and skill, he might not have lasted the whole season. Following criticism even from the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Hocevar started driving cleaner. This clean streak coincided with his Cup appearance.

But things took a bad turn in the latter half of the season when he started receiving criticism from Cup drivers for unnecessary aggression and things reached the boiling point in the Truck season finale. His clash with Corey Heim in the season finale played a significant role in making the event the worst finale in the sport’s history.

In the 2024 season, his primary targets would be to fix the issues with his aggressive driving style as compared to the in the Truck Series, the Cup garage would be less forgiving for his actions. He is going to drive for Spire, a team with big aspirations, and producing solid performances with them will be vital.
