Part-time NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Carson Hocevar met with a crash on Saturday during the Cabo Wabo 250 race at Michigan International Speedway. It was a scary incident involving five cars with three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers. The 20-year-old Hocevar was momentarily airborne on Lap 11 of the race. It was only his first race at this track, and he qualified seventh. Hocevar was running top ten before the crash.

It started when John Hunter Nemechek shoved Ty Gibbs. The two drivers spun off in Turn 2 while Sammy Smith tried to avoid them using his steering wheel. And the three of them are Joe Gibbs Racing drivers. Though Smith avoided Gibbs, he ran into the right side of Carson Hocevar’s No.77 Chevrolet, which lifted the latter off the ground. Thankfully, the car landed, and Hocevar was safe.

Carson Hocevar tried to save his car from damage and pitted for repairs multiple times during the race. However, he did not have the pace after the incident and finished in 32nd place. He was two laps behind the leader, John Hunter Nemechek, who recovered from the multi-car wreck and secured the win. The race winner Nemechek apologized for spinning the cars in his interview after the event.

Hocevar is a part-time Xfinity driver. The 20-year-old drives the No.77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports and the No.07 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for SS-Green Light Racing. The Michigan race was his fifth Xfinity start of the season, and his best finish was sixth place at Darlington Raceway in May. The Portage, Michigan native is a full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver for Niece Motorsports and drives the No.42 Chevrolet Silverado.

Carson Hocevar has three wins and 28 top-ten finishes in the Truck Series. He secured his wins this season. The incident in Michigan was quite disappointing for Hocevar as it is his native, and he was the only driver from there to participate in the event. However, what matter is that he is unharmed after going airborne.

John Hunter Nemechek climbed back through the field and led most laps during the race. He secured his fifth win of the 2023 Xfinity season. He explained what happened after his celebration and took the blame for causing the collision. He told the media, “That’s on me, and I take full accountability for that one. Ty and I will have a conversation, I’m sure.” He also hoped to have a conversation with Ty Gibbs about it. Despite all the arguments between the drivers due to the wreck, they thankfully made it safely.
