Shane van Gisbergen, the inaugural Chicago winner and three-time Supercars champion, will return to the Cup series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 13th.

Trackhouse Racing has announced that Shane van Gisbergen will return to the team’s No. 91 Chevrolet at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 34-year-old impressed the motorsport world by winning NASCAR’s inaugural Chicago Street Race. It was in his Cup debut on July 3rd with Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 program. The program aims to put other motorsport drivers from around the globe in the competitive NASCAR’s top-tier Cup series.
The three-time Australian Supercars champion will return to the Cup race at Indy on August 13th for the second time. After his Chicago win, there has been speculation that Shane van Gisbergen would return to NASCAR in 2024 as a full-time driver. Though he did not comment on his 2024 plans, he is set to return for a second Cup race. Van Gisbergen was delighted after his Chicago win and spoke about his NASCAR experience.
Shane van Gisbergen stated, “I miss racing in the States. I’ve done (the Rolex 24 at) Daytona four or five times now and just the way the American people are and how they go racing, it’s so much more enjoyable.” He claimed that Americans ask good questions and are respectful. Van Gisbergen said he feels comfortable and enjoys how the races are run in NASCAR. All these things and his win might have tempted him to return for another race.
