Kyle Larson was the man of the hour after South Point 400. His P1 finish saw him fill the second spot in the Championship Four. However, Larson’s victory had many close calls. He finished just 0.082 seconds ahead of Christopher Bell. On lap 141, Larson made a huge save at Turn Two when his Chevy almost slipped out of control. However, he managed to handle the situation, with his car’s rear brushing the wall. After the race, HMS crew chief Cliff Daniels gave his take on the situation.

In the post-race press conference, Daniels was asked about the incident. He applauded Larson, saying that it was a ‘ridiculous’ save. He said he was asked to rate the save out of ten, giving it a nine. Daniels joked that Larson did hit the wall. If he hadn’t done that, he would’ve given him ten on ten.

Daniels joked, “I’ll give it a 9.4… Well he hit the wall. If he wants a ten then don’t hit the wall.”  With Larson taking up the second spot, the race for the Championship Four will get even more intense. It is the second time Larson has reached the final stage in his career. The last time he reached that stage, he won the championship as well.

Jeff Gordon gives his take on Kyle Larson’s save in Las Vegas

Kyle Larson’s save in Vegas is one to talk about. Everyone on the track was impressed by his theatrics. As both HMS drivers are now in the Championship Four, vice chairman of HMS Jeff Gordon talked about Larson’s save in the post-race interviews.

Gordon said that, at first, he thought that Larson was having some trouble with his tires. He then saw the replay and realized the gravity of the situation. Gordon said that Larson’s dirt tracking experience was handy as he used that to keep his car in place. He was also concerned about the incident negatively affecting the car’s performance. However, Larson’s skills and a good pit stop saved the day.

“I thought he had a tire going down or something… I was afraid it was going to hurt the performance of the car even though it just kissed the wall. That last pit stop got him out front and he did a great restart,” said Gordon.
