2023 was one of the best years of Stewart Haas Racing Cole Custer’s career. He was demoted to the Xfinity team of SHR following back-to-back poor seasons in the Cup series. But the young driver was determined to get his career back to the top tier, and he started the mission by making a big change in his career.
He married the love of his life, Kari Custer, in January 2023 before kickstarting his attempt to return to the Cup series. Custer was arguably the only good thing that happened to SHR in 2023, as the Tony Stewart co-owned team was struggling in the Cup tier and fielding consistent race-winning capable cars in the Xfinity Series.

Custer was able to produce impressive performance and remain consistent throughout the year. His clutch form towards the end of the season was enough to secure the title, the best moment SHR has had in the last three years. Now Custer has another reason to celebrate as he is set to become a father for the first time.
He took it to X (previously Twitter} to share the news with the fans. Custer wrote, “Baby Custer 2024! Extremely excited and blessed!” He shared a short video that featured a cake with August 2024 written on it, revealing that the child will be delivered in August. This will be the biggest motivation he could ask for in the chase for a second Xfinity title.
The sky is the limit for Cole Custer in 2024
Custer, while talking about his expectations for the 2024 season, [pointed out that he sees the sky as the limit for him. He expects to win more races this season, as he expects the team to give the faster cars and believes he could approach race weekends with more intensity.
There's a lot more potential there. I think we can go out and try and win more races with how we finish the season. I think the sky's the limit. I think we have really fast cars with the Stewart-Haas Xfinity cars right now, and we just got to do the details right and keep the intensity to try and go win every weekend.Cole Custer said.
The 2024 season would be vital for the Custer’s chase for a Cup seat. SHR would be forced to give him a Cup seat if he remains consistent, and there is a big possibility that one SHR seat will be vacant going into 2025. Even if there is no SHR seat, he can still make it to the Cup with another team, given he remains competitive.
