Ty Gibbs, the 20-year-old NASCAR Cup Series rookie, drives the No.54 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. He is only three spots outside the playoffs, and the season has already reached its midway point. Gibbs is 19th in the championship standings after a 34th-place finish in Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. His best finish was a runner-up in the All-Star Open at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Though he is a rookie, Ty Gibbs has been working hard to secure a playoff spot. And to do this, he needs a win. So far, there are fewer than 16 Cup winners this season, and if Gibbs claims a victory, he could make it to the playoffs. It is either that or points. Other drivers like Daniel Suarez, Bubba Wallace, and Micheal McDowell are ahead of him in championship points, and there are hardly a few races left in the regular season.

Ty Gibbs spoke about his approach toward the playoffs ahead of Crayon 301 at the North Hampshire Motor Speedway. He was asked if he looks at the points every week. Gibbs told Fox Sports, “I mean, I’ve seen them before, so I guess I look at them, but I don’t really. I just do the best I can for a weekend and try not to pay attention. Looking into the scorecards isn’t going to help me shoot below par.”

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was asked if he is worried about the playoffs and if it is on his mind. Ty Gibbs said, “ Of course, I want to make the playoffs, and of course, I want to win. So to do that, I got to be the best I can be. You know during the race and during the week and working hard. So for me, that’s not looking and sitting there looking at points every single day waking up and looking at my phone.”

Ty Gibbs stated that he does his best, and it’s what he has always done. He will try to make the playoffs or try to win races. The Cup rookie stated he would give his best every weekend. He is motivated and determined to give his all to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, it would be challenging to make it through points.

Other drivers ahead of Ty Gibbs are Micheal McDowell in 16th, Bubba Wallace in 17th, and A.J. Allmendinger in 18th. Austin Cindric and Justin Haley are right behind him. Among the ones mentioned, drivers like Allmendinger, McDowell, Cindric, and Suarez excel at road courses. This might hinder Gibbs, who wants to enter the playoffs.

Ty Gibbs’s best chance is to win to secure a spot, and the best track for him would be Michigan International Speedway on August 6th. He has won an Xfinity Series race there which might give him the confidence to win his maiden cup race and secure a playoff spot.
