The NASCAR nation welcomed 2024 with tears in their eyes as they lost three-time Cup series champion Cale Yarborough. He passed away at age 86 at Florance on 2023 December 31st. Known for his racing prowess and personality, Yarborough played a significant role in NASCAR’s growth from a regional racing series to a premier stock car racing series worldwide.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of many who joined Yarbrough’s family and friends in mourning his death. Junior took X to offer his and his family condolences and share a heartfelt message. He highlighted Yarborough’s legendary status among the community and how he improved the sport with his presence in the modern era.

Cale Yarborough was dominating the sport when Junior’s father and seven-time Cup champion Dale Sr. was making a name for himself. They have shared some amazing battles on the track. The 83 times Cup race winner was a childhood hero for many racers, including HMS legend and seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johson.
Brad Keselowski mourns the death of Carl Yarborough
RFK Racing co-owner and racer Brad Keselowski joined the fans in honoring the legend. The 2014 Cup series champion took it Twitter and pointed out that Cale Yarborough was a true legend and superstar of the sport. After receiving the news, Keselowski said it was a sad way to end the year.

Cale Yarborough’s place in NASCAR history can not be overlooked. He is one of the greatest racers ever who attracted fans to the sport with his inspiring activities on and off the track. Yarborough’s competitive spirit was second to none, and everything he accomplished in the sport was the product of his hard work.
