The Cup Series and Xfinity Series are stock car racing organized by NASCAR. However, there is a difference between the two. The Xfinity events are often held as support races for Cup race weekends and are considered second-tier compared to the Cup Series. The spotlight is always on the Cup events on Sunday. All this makes it difficult to get into NASCAR’s most prestigious top-tier series.

Though both series are almost similar, the drivers get treated differently. In New Hampshire, the Xfinity Series was scheduled for Saturday and the Cup on Sunday. But due to the weather conditions, the Cup event was postponed to Monday. However, despite the heavy rainfall, the Xfinity race proceeded according to the plan and left the drivers under challenging circumstances. This is just one example of the disparity between the two series. Dale Earnhardt Jr. shed light on this topic in his podcast.

Along with his co-host Mike Davis, he discussed various topics like, Why not race in the rain? Five racing grooves at New Hampshire, The short track package test, and so on. However, he raised an interesting question, “Why are they (Cup drivers) so privileged?”

Earnhardt Jr. provided a perfect example with windscreen wipers on both series’ cars to make his point. He stated, “They come to the race track; I mean, how many races do we watch and go around in the freaking dry, where these ridiculously large windshield wipers that are really large for only one reason because it’s an aero advantage?  I took a picture, of the windshield wipers that you see on the cup cars.”

He added, “There are big bars; it’s built that way because it’s an aero advantage to have it on there. It’s a big triplet, and where it is, like what angle it’s at the intentional angle. I thought it was so funny because I went to the Xfinity garage and I went to one of the smaller teams and I took a picture of their windscreen wiper; it’s the same damn thing that’s on your car and my car.” Though Earnhardt Jr. chuckled while talking about this, but did not hide his feelings toward this bias.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. went on to discuss more about the differences between Cup and Xfinity Series. He spoke about the weather conditions during NASCAR’s New Hampshire weekend. He credited the Xfinity cars for being fast on Saturday and revealed that he left the Xfinity series a happy man. One can always count on his podcast for its perspective, and his windshield wipers example on Cup and Xfinity cars was quite an interesting take that not many would have noticed.
