The thick beard has over the years become a big factor of Dale Earnhardt Jr. over the years. But in the start of career, he never really had a beard and has often been spotted racing with a clean-shave look like many of his peers. But as the years progressed his look changed and the Hall of Famer started having a beard.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the recent episode of his podcast re-debuted his clean shave look and while talking about it revealed the reason why he started growing a beard. Junior was part of the Gillette Young Gun program alongside fellow drovers such as Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. Drivers were mandated to have a clean shave look while being part of this advertisement campaign.
But Junior didn’t like the fact that he was asked by someone else to what to do and what not to do with his beard. He decided to rebel against the demands and tried growing a beard. Once he did grow beard, he fell in love with it and decided keep. Hence an act of rebellion became a defining look for the two times Xfinity Series champion.
The reason why I grew a beard was because I was a Gillette Young Gun and they wouldn't let you grow any facial hair. I was like, it's a great deal, I like being one of the Gillette Young Guns but I can't do what I want, I can't grow a goatee…I was always fighting against that. I would grow a goatee or something else and they would be like, 'Hey! you are not allowed to do that.' I'm like, 'Who are you to tell me what I do in my face?Junior said via Ask Jr.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. made him shave his beard
While previously talking about shaving his beard, Junior pointed out that he actually wanted just a haircut and his wife scheduled it for him. But when he got there, he decided to change it up surprise wife Amy Earnhardt Jr. by shaving his whole beard.
That was about a span of five days where I was like '[If] this continues, this could become permanent.' I was thinking like 'Man I am gonna get a haircut!' Amy schedules me this haircut and I thought, 'Man I'm just gonna give her a clean slate... blank canvas.’Junior said.
Dale Jr. is expected to soon return to his beard look as the bard has been a big part of his brand over the years. But till the fans have an opportunity recall the initial years of Dale Jr. in NASCAR and how he has grown over the years.
