NASCAR cup series will race in Chicago Downtown in 2023. The event will feature the street course debut of the premier racing series. The decision has divided the racing community as a whole. The political uncertainty surrounding the event is a factor behind the mixed reactions. The proposed region for the race is also a hotbed for criminal violence.
The Next-Gen cars are built to cater to the challenges of races such as the street course ones. Street course racing does not align well with the legacy NASCAR has built over the last few decades. The demographics of the region are less favorable for NASCAR to host a successful event. The residents of the region seem less excited about the event according to media reports.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a recent episode of his podcast ‘Dale Jr. Download: Ask Dale Jr.’ has come forward to address the issue. The semi-retired driver has pointed out that he is annoyed with the reception the event is receiving from Chicago residents.
