The Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was postponed due to rain, and NASCAR rescheduled it from Sunday to Monday afternoon. It was the third consecutive weekend that a Cup race had been affected by bad weather conditions. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. noticed what had been happening and shared his views on NASCAR’s rain regulations in his latest podcast.

Earnhardt Jr. had a say in how the sport handled things during the wet weather conditions. NASCAR came well prepared to combat rainfall as they brought rain tires, and the cars sported windshield wipers and de-foggers. Though they had the necessary equipment for racing under wet conditions, they postponed the race. Earnhardt Jr. gave a hilarious take on how NASCAR comes prepared but never goes out to race in these conditions.

In his podcast, The Dale Jr Download, Earnhardt Jr. reacted to NASCAR’s decisions and had a comedic response. Earnhardt Jr. stated, “Every damn car has got the windshield wipers. They got this s**t hanging off the back of them, mud flaps for the spray. They got brake lights and all kinds of blinking s**t so they can see each other. What are we doing? It is the silliest thing ever.”

Earnhardt Jr. added, “It’s like the parents that put their kids in bubble wrap. They got all the bells and whistles, prepare for the worst. It’s like we’re so prepared for the worst and not even willing to put the damn car out on the racetrack when it’s raining.” Mike Davis, the co-host, chipped in by saying, “NASCAR has bubble wrapped the sport, and now they’re not even taking advantage of it.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. explained his bubble wrap reference and said the cars come prepared for wet conditions in New Hampshire. He finds it amusing that when it pours during other series’ races, and there is standing water, the officials throw caution and red flag the session. But, in NASCAR, he claims it is like they are “gun shy.” They are ready for it, but do they want to go?

This does not mean Earnhardt Jr. wants Cup drivers to go out in horrific weather conditions. He believes NASCAR is holding back though they are suited to race in rainy weather. Earnhardt Jr. gave another perfect analogy. He said it is like that kid who climbs up on the high dive, gets to the end but turns around and walks back. The 48-year-old pointed out that the Cup drivers are privileged. The question is, is this the case?
