The 2023 season saw Bubba Wallace producing some impressive performances throughout the year. Despite him ending the season winless for the first time since joining 23XI Racing, it can be considered the best season of his Cup career. The Toyota driver ended the season P10 in the championship with the playoff run that lasted till the R-12.
Two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. has recently reviewed Michael Jordan’s drivers 2023 season. He highlighted the improvements he has shown through the year, especially in the Road Course races and tracks he has usually struggled with before this season.
He improved at the road courses throughout the season and also at the other races tracks he struggled at. So, Bubba Wallace, according to me, took a big step forward and just becoming an overall better driver across the board.Junior said via Dale Jr. Download.
Wallace had some good races this season and if not for the unfortunate mistakes at Kansas, he would’ve ended the season as a race winner. From the 36 races, he scored five Top-5s and ten Top-10s. He had a finish of 20 or worse in just 11 races this year compared to the 15 races last year. He was also super impressive in the qualifying session this year compared to the previous seasons.
Dale Jr. explained Bubba Wallace’s improvement using Tyler Reddick example
The 2023 season saw Wallace welcoming a new teammate as Tyler Reddick left RCR to join 23XI. He replaced Kurt Busch who was initially sidelined for concussion and later announced his retirement. Reddick was expected to pose a serious challenge to Wallace, as he is one of the most promising drivers on the grid.
Dale Jr. had similar expectations coming to the 2023 season as he envisioned the former two-time Xfinity series champion to put pressure on Wallace. Reddick won his maiden Xfinity title with the Hall of Famer’s team JR Motorsports. He highlighted how Bubba Wallace has performed better than his teammate on many weekends, especially in the qualifying sessions.
…when I saw Tyler Reddick come to this team 23XI, I thought Tyler Reddick was really going to drive Bubba Wallace to achieve more. That's going to put pressure on Bubba…They've actually run somewhat similar and at times many times Bubba Wallace has performed better. Bubba had some amazing qualifying efforts this year and ran well at other races that traditionally he hadn't run at.
