The drama is never too far away in NASCAR, and at the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Kansas Lottery 300, it was Sheldon Creed who found himself at the center of controversy once again. This time, it involved Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s JR Motorsports drivers, Brandon Jones and Justin Allgaier, who spun out in an incident that left fans buzzing.

Going into the race, Jones was in desperate need of a victory to secure a playoff spot, as he was nearly 80 points below the playoff cutline. During the race at Kansas Speedway, Brandon Jones faced multiple challenges, including a spin late in Stage 2 and a wreck on the first lap of the final stage.

As the green flag waved, John Hunter Nemechek took the lead with Sammy Smith in close pursuit. However, Sheldon Creed, driving the #2, attempted to pass Smith and brushed his left door. This led to a chain reaction as Smith bumped into JRM’s Justin Allgaier, and Jones, running behind, was involved in the multi-car wreck and had to slip out of the top ten. Meanwhile, Creed emerged relatively unscathed, ultimately securing a podium finish in third place.

Despite setbacks and a tire disadvantage, the JR Motorsports driver displayed unwavering determination. Following the final caution, he restarted in third, vigorously chasing race leader John Hunter Nemechek. Unfortunately, his car’s handling troubles prevented him from closing the gap, and Nemechek stretched his lead. Jones secured a second-place finish, 7.5 seconds adrift. It was a bittersweet outcome, as it didn’t secure him a playoff spot, a pivotal setback in the intense competition.

Fans accuse Sheldon Creed of having an agenda against Sammy Smith

This incident wasn’t the first time Sheldon Creed was in hot water. Back in June, at the Tennessee Lottery 250 in Nashville, Sheldon Creed faced penalties for intentionally wrecking Sammy Smith. NASCAR attributed this to communication from Creed’s team, leading to a 25-point deduction and a $25,000 fine. Fans now question if Creed targets specific drivers, especially those linked to Dale Earnhardt Jr.

In the aftermath of the Kansas race, Sheldon Creed took to his official Xfinity Series handle to share his thoughts. He seemed content with his team’s performance, stating, “Another strong day for the team. Struggled on the short run all race but man she ripped after 20 laps or so. Happy to be rolling into the playoffs with some momentum on our side. Let’s go!!” While this response drew a somewhat softer reaction from fans, some hidden tweets continued to accuse him of foul play.

The Xfinity Series Kansas Lottery 300 delivered high-intensity racing and a fair share of controversy. Brandon Jones’ spectacular recovery drive and his near miss at securing a playoff spot and Creed’s actions made the race a great watch. As NASCAR fans know, in this sport, drama and excitement are never far away, and every race brings new twists and turns.
