Who is Austin Theriault, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s ex-NASCAR driver set to run for US Congress for Donald Trump’s party?

Austin Theriault, a former NASCAR driver who has had part-time stints in all three national series of the sport is set to run for US Congress from Maine. The racer-turned-politician has been working in Maine’s House of Representatives since 2022. He is now looking to get into the big leagues with ex-US President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

He is currently bracing himself for the primary win and to fight the incumbent Jared Golden. He is hoping to contend for the opportunity to represent the 2nd Congressional District of Maine in the United States Congress. The 31-year-old is running for Congress because he believes he can use his skills and experience to serve the people.

Theriault had a solid NASCAR career in all three series including an ARCA championship. He made his ARCA debut with Venturini Motorsports in 2014 and won his maiden race in the same year at Michigan in the debut race. In 2017 he won the championship with seven race wins while driving for Ken Schrader Racing.

He made his Truck Series debut in 2015 with Brad Keselowski’s Truck team at Daytona and has made over 12 starts in the third division and has the best finish of a P4. Theriault raced for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series in 2014 starting three races with the best finish of P15. He has made six starts in the second division.

Theriault made his NASCAR Cup Series debut with Rick Ware racing in 2019, which was also his final season in NASCAR, driving the No:51 and No:52 cars part-time. He has the best finish of a P 32 in the series after making a total of five starts that year. The 2019 Cup playoff race in Talladega was the final race of his NASCAR career so far.

Despite not racing in NASCAR for over four years, one of the most striking factors about Austin Theriault is his racing experience. When asked about how it will benefit him in an interview with TobyChristie.com, he pointed out that it does give him a good start. But for him, that’s not the only defining part about him.

I think it’s a good start, but it’s not the end. At the end of the day, (the voters) also want to know where I came from, my upbringing, being born in Saint John Valley, it’s all sort of the sum of the parts.

He went on to list his defining factors alongside racing. Austin Theriault pointed out that his hard-working background, family, and community values are among the main features of him the voters might like.

Racing is one story of my background, but it’s just one part of the big picture of working hard, valuing family and your community, not being afraid to do what is right, and standing up for what is right, valuing everybody just as they were yourself.
