Richmond Raceway hosted it’s first NASCAR Cup race of the 2024 season on last Sunday that saw their home town racer Denny Hamlin taking the victory in overtime. Though there were some wild moments during the race, it didn’t hit the mark in terms of entertainment value. It continued the trend of underwhelming race product at legacy track.

They're running out of tracks to take dates from. That is a fact. And Richmond is considered, from the conversations I've had with people, Richmond is considered likely to lose a second date at some point. And from the conversations I've had with people, that very well could happen next year. That's what I'm gonna report that
Jordan Bianchi said via The Teardown Podcast.

The 0.751 miles D-Shaped track was opened in 77 years ago and has been a NASCAR race venue since 1953. All three national series and even the IndyCar has raced in the venue. But the drop in race product and the demand in the local market is too significant for NASCAR to overlook Richmond for other promising tracks.

It was, from my reporting, it almost lost a race last year, and it was kind of a last-minute thing of, hey, no, we're gonna keep racing there twice. This is a legacy track. It's been here, NASCAR's racing here decades and decades. We don't wanna do that.
Jordan Bianchi said.

NASCAR removing second Richmond race from the schedule wont be a fan favourite decision. Despite of the lack of entertainment it’s legacy track to which many driver and fans have huge commitments to. But at the end of the day the sanctioning body has to make the decision that would benefit the sport overlooking the emotions.
