Dale Earnhardt Jr. has revealed details on the upcoming series based on his father, the legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. “Becoming Earnhardt” is an eight-episode series on the 1979 NASCAR Cup Series season. It was Earnhardt’s first full-time season in which he secured the first 76 wins in the series. He also won the Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year award the same year.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has waited for a long time to delve into the history and origins of his father’s career. He and his media company, Dirty Mo Media, launched a new podcast, “Becoming Earnhardt.” It is based on the scrapbooks and memories they collected of Earnhardt Sr. Dale Jr. spoke about the podcast and explained the idea behind the series.
Dale Jr. was emotional speaking about the series based on his father. He said in the Dirty Mo Media podcast, “This entire idea came from two scrapbooks that my Aunt Kaye put together back in 1979. Dad’s first full year, she decides ‘I’m going to start a scrapbook Dale, and when I see an article of yours in the local paper I’m going to cut it out and put it in here’.”

Dale Jr. uncovered details he didn’t know about his father’s rookie year

Earnhardt Jr. added, “Articles that he wrote, I’ll read them to you man, and I’m hearing him talk. It’s in his cadence, the choice of words, I can hear him saying all of those things, right?” Dale Jr revealed that his father had Joe Whitlock and a couple of friends that were journalists that would help him get his name out there as he was a rookie. The aim was to let the fans understand him. Dale Jr. revealed they would drop an episode of the series for the next few weeks.
Dirty Mo Media’s official YouTube channel released the trailer featuring images from Dale Earnhardt’s rookie year. Dale Jr. narrated, “I’m looking back on my dad’s rookie season before he was ‘The Intimidator’, and I’m uncovering details that I didn’t even know and this happens to be the greatest NASCAR season in history.” There is no doubt that this series is a special one for Earnhardt Jr.
Dale Jr. revealed that he worked hard with the team and wrote most of the script. Each episode is an hour and a half long and is narrated by him. The Hall of Famer is excited about “Becoming Earnhardt.” Another reason to look forward to this is that it features other NASCAR legends like Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, and Cale Yarborough at their peak age. There is excitement around this project as fans hope to witness the undiscovered stories from the greatest NASCAR season.
