NASCAR legend and HMS vice-chairman Jeff Gordon even called the economic model broken. He along with the chief representatives of the big cup teams demanded radical changes from the organization to address the situation. NASCAR is yet to give positive feedback.

Many former and current famous NASCAR personas have expressed their feelings on the matter. Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has joined the critics. He opened up about the broken economic model, in his The Dale Jr. Download podcast, which is even restraining his cup charter dreams.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he expected NASCAR to give him a feasible counteroffer for the charter he needs to enter the cup series. He pointed out that he didn’t expect a such minimal offer from NASCAR.

I thought too as a potential buyer of a charter that what Nascar would give them would be way more.  So, when I heard NASCAR’s offer was very minimal it made me go oh wow, I didn’t expect that right,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said that teams acquire 60 to 80 percent of the money they need to race from sponsorship deals. He added that if sponsors back out from the partnership it puts the tea owner in trouble. Dale Jr. pointed at the M&M’s NASCAR exit and how it put JGR in disarray.

Because basically, the teams are saying that 80 percent 60 to 80 percent of the money it takes for them to race comes from sponsors, and if a sponsor like M&M’s wakes up one day and goes we’re not here anymore that would destroy that team,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

Dale Jr. said that broken sponsorship deals force the team to reduce its team size pointing at JGR and Kyle Busch’s situation. He said, “That puts the responsibility on the owner to find that 60 to 80 percent. If he doesn’t, he’s got to fire people. He can’t hire the driver he wants like Kyle Busch you know all these things tumble into disarray,”.
