The Earnhardt brand has always been a part of stock car racing. Most motorsport enthusiasts, particularly NASCAR fans, are fond of the legacy behind the Earnhardt name. Though this legacy was built by the seven-time Winston Cup Champion and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., it has been carried on by his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. Hence, the fans recognize Dale Jr. and often approach him for autographs.
However, an interesting incident happened in Michigan ahead of the race. The Athletic Motorsports reporter Jeff Gluck shared an amusing interaction between Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a woman. Gluck revealed that he rode the elevator with the NASCAR Hall of Famer, and a woman who got on started a conversation with him. She confessed to Earnhardt Jr. that she was not a big NASCAR fan but knew enough to recognize him.
While one would think that she actually recognized Dale Earnhardt Jr. from how she started the conversation, she did not. She said, “I’m not a big NASCAR fan, but I know enough to recognize you. You’re…” Dale Jr. took the opportunity to do the funniest thing possible. He completed her sentence by saying, “Jeff Gordon.” Yes, he pretended to be the four-time Cup Series champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer, Jeff Gordon.
Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Gordon were teammates back in the day
Jeff Gordon has raced against both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and his son. Back in the day, Dale Jr. and Gordon were teammates. They competed for Hendrick Motorsports and were quite popular. The duo were friends off-track and rivals on track, like other drivers. Though they had their fair share of battles, they remained good friends. It is no wonder that Dale Earnhardt Jr. mentioned Gordon’s name when the fan didn’t complete the sentence.
After the funny interaction, Dale Jr., known for his friendly personality, met with other fans waiting to take pictures with him. Gluck reported, “Then he took pics with like 30 people in the lobby and outside.” The 48-year-old is currently in Michigan for the NASCAR Xfinity and Cup race. He made time for his fans and posed for pictures before attending to his business. Many were happy and called him patient and kind.
NASCAR fans on Twitter teased Earnhardt Jr. by calling him Dale Gordon Jr. The two-time Daytona 500 winner has been busy in Michigan. Apart from duping a fan into thinking he was Jeff Gordon, he signed a fan’s toy car and another person’s die-cast. Fans are always fond of his humor and never miss a chance to appreciate him for stopping for them.
