NASCAR News: Daytona 500 2022 qualifying order revealed

2022 Daytona 500

The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is set to officially get underway with the historical Daytona 500, 64th annual race Daytona International Speedway on February 20th  Sunday where 40 qualified cars out of 42 entered will go all out to win the 200-lap “Great American Race” in the 2.5-mile high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The qualifying will begin on Wednesday night with a single-car qualifying session and will conclude with Bluegreen Vacations Duels which will two of the six non-chartered entries to the race get eliminated.

The qualifying spots were decided by random draws as the 24 cars lowest in the 2020 owner standings drew for spots 1 to 22 and the top 20 cars in the 2020 owner standings draw for spots 21 to 42. This will be the last time NASCAR will be using this formula for qualifying line-up as the implementation of the new formula in Daytona was halted due to a lack of data on variables.
