Denny Hamlin had a tough start to the 2024 NASCAR Cup season after starting it on a high note in the unofficial season opener, the LA Clash. Despite his elite Superspeedway prowess, Hamlin was able to score finishes outside the top 15 in Atlanta and Daytona 500.
The Atlanta Cup race was an eventful day for Hamlin as he was wrecked thrice. Ironically once in the three stages. He felt like a victim of circumstances after the race due to the crashes. But this wasn’t the only tough situation Hamilin found himself in.
With just 20 laps left in the race Hamlin’s stomach and bladder started having discomfort and desperately had to pee. But he had to make multiple attempts to pee, using the support system in the car, because he had never done the same previously.
In case you missed it: Bubba Wallace’s ‘brain is mush’ as back-to-back superspeedway races ‘mentally drained’ himAnd my stomach is killing me. Like, I ain’t gotta go No. 2, I gotta go No. 1. But my bladder is just dying, and so I get to pit road and they’re working on the damage, and I just closed my eyes and tried to think of something that would make me go. And as soon as I got the first dribble, boom. It was warm, and then it was cold. I never felt what it felt like to pee in my seat. But I kinda liked it. Is that weird?Hamlin said via the Action Detrimental podcast.
Denny Hamlin ended 650 race streak on Sunday
Hamlin while discussing admitted that he has never tried to pee in the No:11 Toyota Camry, which he has been racing in since 2007, once. But everything has to come to an end, even hilarious streaks.
It was also surprising to see a NASCAR racer openly discussing such experiences as often the pee conversation is an uncomfortable one to have for the drivers. This shows Hamlin’s character being brutally honest about things most often.
Going into this weekend’s race at Las Vegas, Hamlin will be hoping that he can get back to finishing at the front row or secure the win. Getting back to form as quickly as possible will be essential for Hamlin in his continuing challenge for the maiden title.
