Since the 2021 season, the one thing that has been the Achilles heel for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing has been the poor pit stops. Over the last three years, they have scored five race victories and the pit-stop issues have cost them the same or more victory lane visits.

The latest of the saga occurred at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, last Sunday. Tyler Reddick who had one of the fastest cars of the day, came 0.4 seconds short of a victory behind Kyle Larson. One of the major reasons behind the disappointment was the pit-stop mishaps that put him in an unfavorable position on track after every cycle.

Denny Hamlin, the co-owner of 23XI Racing, once again addressed this persisting issue. He pointed out that it’s hugely disappointing being in this position and admitted that since his debut 23XI crew has cost the team two to three vital victories.

I certainly feel like generally speaking, yes, this is a topic this weekend and it will be here in a few hours. But it’s a process. It f—— sucks. I know it sucks. It’s keeping the 23XI guys out of victory lane. No question about it. There were at least 2-3 victories that Tyler should’ve had last year that he didn’t get an opportunity to because we messed up for him on pit road.
Hamlin said via the Action Detrimental podcast.

Denny Hamlin is not overreacting due to the incident

The JGR veteran driver went on to urge his team not to overreact just because the team messed up just once this season. He pointed out his team has been working on being more efficient at the pit stops in the off-season and this is potentially being an odd event.

I don’t know, this is the painful part about it. Pit crews have become such a big part of the result and a lot of it is certainly pit crews can take you out more than they’re going to help you, right? And what we hope to do is increase our speed in the offseason, increase our reliability of non-blowup stops, so that’s stops worse than 13 seconds or so. It’s a process. … Let’s try not to overreact too much after one event.
Hamlin said.

Going into next weekend’s race at Phoenix, Reddick will hope to redeem himself. But for both the No:45 and Bubba Wallace‘s No:23 team to shine, Hamlin has to give them a solid crew.
