Commentary is one of the most important aspects of any sport. A good commentator can turn even the most monotonous event into an interesting one. JGR driver Denny Hamlin believes that analyst Jamie McMurray is one of those people. McMurray is currently a race analyst for the pre-race and post-race shows for Fox NASCAR.

McMurray is a former NASCAR driver who has raced for teams like Spire Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing. Having 15 years of experience in the Cup Series, he is considered one of the finest race analysts. McMurray retired in 2018 and joined Fox NASCAR in 2019 as an analyst.

Recently, Jeff Gluck of the Athletic reposted a post by Fox NASCAR that showed McMurray’s post-race analysis of the final lap at Talladega and praised his analysis of the last lap chaos. To that post, Denny Hamlin replied, “He’s an elite level analyst that should be in the booth on Sundays. I don’t care what network.”

In most cases, the drivers don’t have or share an opinion on complimentary things like commentary. However, Hamlin’s support for McMurray shows the level of knowledge he has about the sport and what his potential as a commentator is.

Petty said that there is nothing wrong that Hamlin can do at the moment. At Talladega, Hamlin was penalized for speeding in the pit lane. However, he still managed to finish P3 in the race. Petty said that Hamlin can do whatever he wants and still finish in the top five.

“When it’s your year, it’s your year and this appears to be Denny’s year because of these little things we’re watching right now. Right now, Denny is on a high. They can do nothing wrong. They can speed on the pit road. They can do whatever they want to do and they’re going to salvage a top five,” said Petty.
