Joe Gibbs Racing’s veteran driver Denny Hamlin is renowned for straightforwardly expressing his opinions on NASCAR. With his latest podcast, Hamlin had one more reason to be more open and critical. He has now expressed his thoughts on Fox Sport’s NASCAR coverage which has been receiving criticism for multiple reasons.
The NASCAR community has been vocal about the advertisement-break-ridden coverage of NASCAR races. Fans watching the races via TV have been missing some important actions and crashes. This has caused an uproar on social media, and Fox’s veteran commentator Mike Joy even had to make controversial remarks while defending his employers. Hamlin, while talking about the growing concern about race coverage, said there are things Fox should consider changing.
“I think the fans, in general, and on social media, are really, really tough on Fox. I think some of it is warranted, but I think that they’re very critical about some really small things that they could get better. One thing I saw at (Bristol) Dirt last week or when I watched it back, the announcers would be talking about some side-by-side battle, and the camera wasn’t on it. So, you didn’t know — what are they are talking about? Let me see this battle,” Hamlin said.
“I did notice too, as soon as some action would start to heat up on a side-by-side battle, they’d cut to like 12th place. You see the second-place guy working over the first-place guy like right on his ass and about to make a move and they cut to like side-by-side for 12th. It’s like, s***, let’s keep it in the battle that’s about to dictate who’s going to be leading this race. Certainly I think from a production standpoint, we could make some improvements,” Hamlin added.

Fox producers made a big blunder last weekend
During last weekend’s Martinsville Cup race practice, the Fox race coverage producers made a big blunder. They showed the wrong graphics for No. 15 Rick Ware Racing driver JJ Yeley during the practice session. It showed that the former IndyCar driver was the 2009 Formula 1 world champion. The poor review before airing the broadcast was depressing for the fans.
The mistake might have occurred due to the fact that Jenson Button, the original 2009 f1 champion, made his Cup series debut in the same car at COTA. The producers might have used the same graphics they used for that race during the coverage and might have forgotten to change the driver’s achievements after changing the name.
