The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday ay Richmond was eventful race. One of the highlight of the race was Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson. The 23XI Racing driver spun the Hendrick Motorsports’ driver on lap 399 of the race. This resulted in NASCAR calling caution and sending the race to overtime.
After the race, Bubba Wallace wasted no time to apologize to Kyle Larson as he was predominantly to be blamed for the incident. He grabbed the No:5 Chevy driver to the side while he was giving post-race interview and said sorry to him, insisting he didn’t mean spin him. Denny Hamlin, the 23Xi co-owner, is a happy man seeing the classy gesture of his driver.
You kind of look at that accident, and you could see where — now, that was a very vulnerable part of the racetrack, where Larson got really loose off a turn four. You can see, where he got clear Bubba, and then started getting loose, and then checked up and then Bubba was right on him. So, it was good to see Bubba come over there and at least apologize to him.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
Larson car getting lose on the corner was a major reason for the spin, so it wasn’t necessary for Wallace to take the blame. As a team owner Hamlin now doesn’t have to worry about any potential they could’ve faced over the incident. But he is disappointed because of the fact that due to a poor pit-stop, the No:23 couldn’t score a top-10.
Bubba Wallace’s incident gave Denny Hamlin all opportunity to score the win at Richmond
The racer that capitalized the most out of the incident and overtime was Denny Hamlin. The No:11 team was able to produce the fastest pit-stop of the cycle and was able to get Hamlin ahead of Truex out of the pit-lane.
He then took the inside lane on the re-start and aggressively defended Martin Truex Jr. to secure his second victory of the season at his home track. While Wallace made his boss happy, his Toyota teammate was furious as him and in his post-race interview called him out for the “dumba** move.”
Bubba Wallace also got the Karma for the incident. He was racing in the top-10 majority of the race and during the overtime pit-stop his team made a small mistake, which he deems as Karma, put him outside the top-10 on the restart and he wasn’t able to regain the lost positions.
Both the TRD drivers are now over the incident and would be hoping bounce back next-weekend at Martinsville. They will surely be challengers for the race win as the Toyota track package at the moment is the best and both of them have had good outings there in the past.
