Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin is sure that he will see more of the Hall of Famer Michael Jordan after the basketball icon sold his majority stake in the NBA team Charlotte Hornets. Hamlin and Jordan co-own the NASCAR Cup team 23XI Racing founded in 2020. They field the No. 23 and 45 Toyota Camry for Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, respectively.

Michael Jordan acquired the majority ownership of the Charlotte Hornets 13 years back. Over this period, the team made it to the playoffs just twice. Jordan will now turn his attention to his Cup team and be involved in its operation. Recently, Denny Hamlin spoke to the media about how Jordan’s involvement in 23XI Racing increased following the sale of Hornets.

Denny Hamlin told the press, “Certainly, he’s (Michael Jordan) involved in more meetings. Now he wants to be on every branding e-mail… I’m like, oh boy, this could be interesting. I think he has had some more time. Perhaps he is going to use more on the race team.” Jordan’s focus on his team will help them grow and improve without any doubt. Both founders will now be invested and make improvements to the team.

Despite the Hornet’s sale, Denny Hamlin kept the team’s tickets for the season. He said, “I did. It’s been a good partner relationship for me, and I’ve used it in a lot of really good ways to help entertain employees, sponsors, or whatever. And certainly, with my Jordan brand deal that I’ve had for over a decade now, it’s paid dividends.”

Ever since Michael Jordan sold his majority ownership of the Hornets for $3 billion, his involvement in his Cup team has increased. The 60-year-old closed the deal with Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin after the NBA Board of Governors voted 29-1 to the sale. New York Knicks owner James Dolan was the only one who objected to it. However, according to Daily Mail, Jordan will remain on board with a minority stake in the organization.

This development would also help Denny Hamlin, who tries managing his racing career with Joe Gibbs Racing and his team 23XI Racing. Hamlin hopes the Chicago Bulls legend will be more successful as a NASCAR Cup team owner than an NBA team owner, as they missed the postseason in the last seven years. Despite being on vacation in the South of France, Jordan has been more involved in his Cup team.
