Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman have once again come together at the track. The No:48 Camaro ZL1 driver lost control and spun across the track taking the No:11 Camry with him to the infield turf.

The incident occurred on lap 156 of the race, with six laps left to the end of stage two. Bowman tagged Hamlin, which sent him first to the outside wall, and then he slid back to take the Chevy with him. The JGR driver finished the race at P14 as the top Toyota, while Bowman finished P26 sandwiched between Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick

Denny Hamlin had an incident with Alex Bowman last Sunday at Chicago Street Race. It came sometime after the HMS driver admitted he deliberately wrecked Hamlin in Martinsville a couple of years ago. They turned out to be another missed opportunity for Bowman to lock a playoff spot while his TRD rival missed the opportunity to score some vital playoff points.

After the race, Hamlin pointed out that if not for the stage two incident, he would have easily secured a top 5 finish. He added that the team was lucky to get away with minimal damage. He told the media after the race, “We were pretty loose to start the day. The more pit stops we had, the better we kept getting our Coca-Cola Camry. I honestly was right where I wanted to be – towards the top-five – when we got spun there.”

I was trying to get stage points – I knew that it was going to be race to the end of the stage, which it turns out it pretty much was. We lost some stage points and finished somewhere in the mid-teens. We didn’t have enough time to get our way back up there, but luckily our car wasn’t damaged too much, and we were able to salvage something,” Hamlin said.

The NASCAR community on Twitter had a mixed reaction to the Chevy-Toyota duo incident. Some fans were quick to mock Bowman, who, despite being in a superior machinery, hasn’t produced a performance worthy of championships like his teammate. There were also trolls aimed at Hamlin and his podcast.
